Sam Jyawook, president and CEO of JyTech Polymers, has long been recognized as a leading innovator in high performance sealing technology. More than any other individual in the industry, Sam has been at the forefront of the weathersealing material evolution for over 30 years, leading the transition from SBR, to EPDM, to TPV.

A chemical engineer by training and an innovator at heart, Sam’s expertise in compound chemistry and production is enhanced by experience throughout the weatherseal design, engineering and manufacturing processes as well. As noted in the Nov. 2002 issue of Automotive Engineering:

As vice president of engineering at Kingston-Warren in the 1980s, Jyawook was a major proponent of EPDM, leading the sealing industry’s transition away from SBR (styrene butadiene rubber). He also pioneered the application of finite-element analysis and modeling to automotive sealing systems, and was responsible for manufacturing innovations such as multi-durometer extruding and robotic assembly. Later, as President of Thona Corp., he helped the company achieve 900% growth during the 1990s, introducing a number of innovations in extruding and glass encapsulation process technology.

Sam went on to co-found Jyco Sealing Technologies, which was acquired by CooperStandard in 2013.

Shawn Jyawook, COO of JyTech Polymers, co-founded Jyco Sealing Technologies in 2000. In partnership with his father Sam, Shawn helped grow Jyco to a global leader in compounding and weathersealing technology, establishing manufacturing plants in China, Mexico, Europe and North America, and topping $100M in annual sales.

Prior to that, Shawn was co-founder of Trlflex Industries, a JIT subcontract manufacturer of weathersealed glass modules, sunroof kits and other products. Triflex earned recognition for its track record of nearly 0 defects and 100% defect detection. Triflex was acquired by TDS Automotive in 2000.

Through Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) and Ann Arbor SPARK, Shawn also serves as an advisor to technical start-up companies in the Michigan area.
